Fun Run x Walking Dead = Havoc Run

If running a few kilometers still does not make your heart palpitate out of your ribcage, then throw in several scary-looking, rotten, bloody corpses (with the full capacity to sprint ala Usain Bolt) to chase you around the course for good measure.

In the spirit of everything weird and Halloweeny, the Stella Maris Alumni Batch 2007 staged a fun run coup the likes never before seen in Davao City. Havoc Run was designed for the average avid runner to have a little extra sumthin' sumthin' on the side for kicks. As you went through the course, zombies would suddenly pop out and chase after you, gunning for those little "LIFE FLAGS" hanging from your belt.

When zombies capture all your flags, sorry boo, but you are as dead as roadkill even if you finish the whole 4 kilometers. Run through that finish line with one or more flags intact, then you win bragging rights, having survived the whole shebang.

The Ingenuity kids ran that race and had a blast doing so. But like in bad, Cinemax-worthy B-rated horror-slasher-zombie film, everybody ended up dead except for John (the zombies had to respect the elderly, yknow) and Angelo (those dead dudes probably heard of his mean aikido chops and decided to stay away).

Mancio got bamboozled by good friend and locker-mate Zombie JC; Koon went kaput trying to mouth off long-winded "Kooning" explanations to race officials about his backpack. Marlon, being lithe and easy to miss, ended up keeping his flags..until just as he was about to cross the finish line, the zombies sniffed him out and attacked him five-to-one. He ended up dead, naturally.

Super fun Sunday afternoon, by the looks of their faces in the pictures. Big thanks go out to Dom Cimafranca (our Training Consultant) for lending us the pix here, as well as the Havoc FB Page and Yuell Lisondra. To the Havoc Run organizers, especially to our teammate JC, props and congratulations for the success of this event!

Over and out.

Themed Friday: Halloween

Halloween is a time to celebrate the memory of the dead, to embrace the supernatural, the weird, the macabre, and the deadly. It is a wonderful time, an eve of sorts for the Holidays; a celebration that ushers in happiness and fun.

Monsters might be ugly and psychos may be killer.
Dead brides may be creepy and heroes might be super.
Philip was a bloody pad...
Gross! Bad! But it was, honestly, a bit rad!
Joseph might not like dressing,
but this time he wore something.
Nobody dared put up a fight
to look like creatures of the night.
It's coz it's an Ingenuity Halloween...
Funny, crazy, awesome...albeit a little green!

Enjoy the pictures, little monsters.

More pix after the jump!
Congrats to Philip The Bloody Sanitary Napkin for winning Best Costume!
Have a BOO-ery Happy Halloween!!!

UP Min Completes Training

Bleary-eyed, wet-haired, and panting from the ascent of five flights of stairs --- this was how they first came into the halls of the Ingenuity office. They were eager young people willing to sacrifice their rest Saturdays for grueling 8-hour lectures and projects, all for the betterment of mankind.

Instead of a final exam to assess what they learned throughout their training, they were tasked to do Python-Django projects that are showcases of information systems. CEO John, Training Director June, Trainers Baia, Koon, and Aljohn were all on hand to critique their work, and were pleased with the outcome of the projects.

As they turned in and presented their systems, Team Ingenuity could not feel prouder that after just a short time, these kids have finally come into their own. And such talent they have! Hatching ideas into projects that would not only be usable, it could be of great help to their target industries as well.

Seth Busque and Dan Palmares' Library Management System was judged as the best of all projects presented. And Ross Bello and Princess Cuabo's Teacher's Evaluation System came in second place. Seth and Dan's project won the prestige of being supported by Ingenuity to Davao's 1st Start Up Weekend this coming November 9-11, 2012.

A little pep talk from the CEO

All in all, it was indeed a good day for everyone. Kudos, UP kids! Job well done.

Themed Fridays: TV/Movie Character

Oscar Wilde once said, in so many words, that if he would sometimes be a little overdressed, he makes up for it by being immensely over-educated.

Well, I dunno about Mr. Wilde but, being under-dressed AND over-educated would seem to me like a more potent combination. That is why here in our office, as readers of this blog and insiders alike know, we do tend to dress down a lot - to mask the brilliance within. (What? There's bound to be more impact on someone upon knowing that they totally got us wrong.)

People who judge books and people by their external attributes would, understandably, perceive the Ingen kids as deviant miscreants by virtue of looks alone. None could blame them, though. People always assume that with the typical "programmer look" of scruffy goatees, mohawk-punk-rocker hairstyles, a general disheveled aura, and deep, tired, eyebags common to everyone in the team, everybody would either be pegged as a druggie or a misfit. They would never think that that kid who wears his backpack front to back is actually the magna cum laude of his graduating batch. Or that kid who looks like a 12 year old Chinese sleepyhead is actually a cum laude. That kid who walks around with his long hair ponytailed down his back is actually a genius programmer, and that one with the scruffy facial and chest hair is a ninja at Python/Django.

That is why we don't really take that "the clothes make the man" saying seriously.

But while we consider dressing up too mainstream, sometimes we do it just for shits and giggles.

Last Friday, we had our monthly Themed Fridays. The theme was super fun; everyone really went all out and "dressed up" as nerdy as their little cool, calculating weirdo hearts could muster.

It is with great pride that I present to you the TV/Movie Characters of Team Ingenuity! Box office!
